Theme Night 17 - the aftermath!
So Theme Night 17 is a wrap. Am absolutely thrilled with how it went...for a one-off show it went remarkably smoothly and that's a testament to the huge team now involved in making these events happen.
So many highlights for me...from the sheer scale and sound of the epic numbers (Barcelona, We Are the Champions) to the harmonies and passion on Sunshine On Leith. Sarah Crummy's stunning arrangement of To Win Just Once, Aileen Concannon's heartfelt Abba rendition, the fun I had performing Beach Boys medley with the 10 6th years, and the cheek of Sean Callaghan!!! It was the first time I ever performed some of my own compositions at a theme night too and I enjoyed that. Oh and the roar from Ken McDonald and high fives all round from the band when we nailed I Want to Ride My Bicycle!
Thanks to Sligo GAA for asking me to do this and for organising a great event. As I said on the night it was a lovely for me to have both my football and musical families in the one room. Good luck to the lads against Offaly today, and also to the U-21s in the Connacht final next week.
Thanks also to Daniel Furey and all at the IT, Vinnie Higgins, Barry McKinney and Marie O'Byrne for making the event look and sound great...it's amazing how with some expertise that that room can be converted into an arena so quickly. And to Declan Harte for some great pics.
A special thanks though goes to all the musicians and singers who gave of their time, talent and energy so freely to make this (warning-controversial statement ahead) possibly my favourite theme night yet!!!
Keep an eye out on my Facebook and Twitter feeds...videos to follow. Kieran.
