Our Place: 6 Songs for Sligo

What’s the story?

By now, I have 3 studio albums to my name. They feature a total of 24 guest musicians and styles ranging from traditional Irish jigs and reels to funk tracks, from jazz ballads to contemporary solo piano compositions.

Hence, the frequent question ‘what style of music do you play’, is a hard one for me to answer!

So, rather than try and pigeon-hole myself, I have decided to embrace this versatility, and have set himself a challenge of writing, recording and releasing 6 songs in 6 different styles, for 6 different singers, all in 6 months.

The first single will be released on July 31, and I will continue to release a new single every month for the rest of the year, culminating in a Christmas single, and an EP release of all 6 songs.

Hawk’s Well Theatre

The wonderful Sligo institution – the Hawk’s Well Theatre, this year asked me to undertake a short residency with them. I chose the focus of the residency to be songwriting, and hence have been working hard at improving my craft through practicing and collaborating with other artists.

The proceeds from the afore-mentioned EP will go towards matching the €550,000 grant the Hawk’s Well have already received from the government.

Along with the Hawk’s Well, I am also collaborating with 6 businesses who will sponsor the making of the video to accompany each of the 6 singles, again with all monies going to the Renovation Fund.

I'd like to thank the 2 businesses who have already come on board - Knox and Thomas Connolly's - and would like to encourage anyone else who would like to find out more about the project to get in touch at info@kieranquinn.ie

Well-known singers

Unusually, in this case it is the songwriter (me!) who will release the songs; however I have teamed up with a number of star names such as Sandy Kelly, Tabby Callaghan, Seamie O'Dowd, Joe Hunt and Sinead Conway who will bring these songs to life.
