Dear Reader - Lots of time with just me and the piano these days…
The Big Thing
I’m currently in the thick of recording 435 videos for the new piano term.
Yes - that’s four hundred and thirty five!
All types of songs and tunes at varying levels of difficulty - in order that our students firstly have as wide a choice as possible, and then also that they have these videos as a resource to use at home between lessons.
I have 200-odd done so far and the biggest takeaway is how well I’m sleeping!
I always found it after days recording in the studio too - the focus required can really take it out of you.
But it’s great work to get done and these videos will last for our students for years.
Where else but Sligo?
A letter reader got in touch last week to share an interaction he had with Glen Hansard a few years ago. He shared with me these words that Glen had written to him, which may provide some comfort to any of you who are grieving his loss…
"I heard someone say that when a loved one passes we take on the best of them. Well I feel there’s something to that."
What’s New?
Sligo guitarist Keith O’Donnell has played many a show with us over the last few years. He is a versatile guitar player and has a great way with younger musicians especially which makes him a huge asset on the Teenage Theme Nights.
You can see him below Cavatina with the Sligo Academy of Music Sinfionetta from Theme Night #13 back in 2015!
He has recently set up new social media pages, with lots of self-arranged solo guitar versions of contemporary songs and tunes.
Check him out on Facebook and Instagram.
Finally…
I had the pleasure of playing with the Cabbage Collective in Lillies last Sunday night…this was one I particularly enjoyed!
Till next time - Kieran.
